Deforestation is the conversion of forested areas to non-forested lands for use such as land for agriculture, cattle ranching, urban development or logging.

 

Deforestation can also be seen as removal of forests which leads to several imbalances ecologically and environmentally speaking and results in decrease in habitats and biodiversity. Urbanization, Mining, Fires, Logging and Agricultural activities are few of the causes of deforestation.

 Based on studies by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), an approximate 18 million acres (7.3 million hectares) of forest are lost annually. It contributes pollution and global warming thus deforestation will harm the earth immensely.
